Majorheading(OBJECTIVE)
The Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory proposes to carry out a
program of research and evaluation of computer vision techniques for
second and third inspection in integrated circuit production.
We request support in the amount of ***$100,000 for the period from
October 1, 1983 to September 1984. ***
It is intended that there may be a follow-on to this research to extend
any favorable results. This support will provide salaries
of researchers working on the project and expenses connected with the
project, including computation costs. The project will take advantage of
a large base of equipment, software, knowledge, and expertise supported
by a major laboratory with broad funding.
The goal of this research is to evaluate this class of inspection problems,
to identify those tasks which can be automated, and to demonstrate inspection
operations. A preliminary evaluation by the principal investigator indicates
that the primary inspection criteria appear feasible to automate, and none of
the inspection operations examined can be dismissed immediately as infeasible.
The tasks of this research are: 1) plan the research program
in conjunction with Intel personnel; 2) evaluate the difficulty of
inspection tasks and assign priorities for tasks; 3) experiment with
tasks which have high priority; 4) demonstrate feasibility for those tasks;
5) re-evaluate the total set of inspection tasks; 6) plan and propose
a possible follow-on.
